The upcoming boxing match fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson has been given a new date.
Originally set for July 20th, the fight between the YouTuber turned boxer and the former heavyweight champion had to be postponed due to Tyson's health issues. Now, the match is rescheduled for November 15th at AT&T Stadium. Additionally, the highly awaited rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano for Taylor's undisputed super lightweight championship will also take place on the same day as the co-main event.
Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, expressed gratitude for the cooperation of all involved parties in finding a suitable new date. The event's relocation to November ensures both fighters have ample time for preparation and allows the event to remain at AT&T Stadium despite the Cowboys' season. Bidarian emphasized the event's historic significance and promised fans a night of unforgettable boxing, which will be globally broadcasted on Netflix.
The decision to hold the fight on a Friday instead of the usual Saturday raised eyebrows. However, it accommodates the Dallas Cowboys' schedule, who are hosting a game on Monday, November 18th. This scheduling adjustment ensures the stadium is set up for both events.
The initial July date had little competition from other major sporting events, but Tyson's health setback forced the postponement. Tyson's ulcer flare-up on a flight in May required medical attention, prompting doctors to advise him to limit his training until he recovered fully.
Tyson, despite the delay, expressed determination to resume training and emphasized his confidence in defeating Jake Paul whenever they eventually fight. The age gap between the two fighters will be significant, with Tyson being 31 years older than Paul, marking it as the largest age gap in professional boxing history. It will also be over 19 years since Tyson's last professional fight.
In the co-main event, both Taylor and Serrano will return to the ring after a considerable hiatus. Serrano's last fight was in October, while Taylor fought in November.
Details about other fights on the card, such as Darren Till's boxing debut and the bout between Ashton Sylve and Floyd Schofield, remain uncertain.
The Paul-Tyson fight will be streamed live on Netflix and will count towards their professional records. It is set to last eight rounds, with each round lasting two minutes.
Tickets purchased for the original date will be valid for November 15th, with refunds available for those unable to attend until July 8th.
